A grenade was lobbed at a group of youths in front of a pub in Chiang Rai's Muang district yesterday morning, injuring seven people, two of them seriously.
Police were checking CCTV footage and interviewing eyewitnesses.
Muang Chiang Rai police superintendent Pol Colonel Wichien Maichai said the explosion took place at 3.30am after the pub closed. It was suspected that the attack stemmed from an earlier brawl between two groups of youths at the pub, which had been broken up by security guards, Wichien said. While one group reportedly left the area, the other group of 10 youths remained outside. Then two men on a motorcycle pulled over and one of them hurled a grenade at the group, resulting in the seven injuries, Wichien added.
