BANGKOK, 9 October 2013 (NNT) – Bangkok residents are under stress due to high cost of living, traffic problem and the government’s lack of administrative skills, according to a survey from Bangkok University.
More than 75% of 1,746 respondents said those three factors are the cause of serious stress. 39.3% pointed out that their mental tensions have been caused by the rising cost of living in recent months while 11.8% blamed it on notorious Bangkok traffic jam and 10.3% on the current government’s lack of skills and ineffective policies.
Almost half of respondents demanded the government to find a solution to the rising expenses, while a quarter of them wanted the government to mend the rift in the society from current political conflicts and others pointed out that corruption in the government should be tackled first.
Bangkok University’s survey is aimed to increase public awareness of the mental health condition of Thai people as 10 October is designated as the World Mental Health Day.
