Tourist police recently arrested a man for trying to exchange fake US currency in Phuket.
The Thai suspect, 39, was caught with 482 fake US$10,000 banknotes on Saturday.
Upon arrest, the suspect said he was promised a commission if he could exchange the fake notes for proper cash.
Tourist Police Division's deputy commander Colonel Supaseth Chokchai said police had received a tip-off about the fakenote gang and decided to stage an undercover operation to nail down the culprit.
Police said the suspect would have got up to Bt144.6 million if he was able to exchange all the fake notes based on face value.
