A clash between border patrol police and a drug-smuggling gang in Chiang Rai's Mae Sai district on Friday night resulted the death of six suspects and the seizure of 840,000 yaba pills, an informed source said yesterday.
One suspect was injured.
The incident occurred in a wooded area between Ban Pha Mhee-Ban Tham Luang.
Responding police did not access the remote area until about 5am yesterday.
A .38-calibre gun and a handmade shotgun were also seized.
Chiang Rai police chief Maj-General Wanchai Suwansirikhet and other senior police inspected the scene at about 10am.
Meanwhile, Provincial Police Region 8 chief Lt-General Panya Mamen announced a drug bust in Krabi's Koh Lanta in which four suspects were arrested.
Police seized 7,800 yaba pills, 372.95 grams of crystal meth, Bt65,700 cash, five bank account books that showed sums of about Bt500,000 and six CCTV cameras.
