Two hurt in bomb attack in Narathiwat

Two people were injured when a bomb exploded in front of the house of a former Narathiwat provincial councillor yesterday morning.
The bomb, estimated to be 20kg and planted in a ditch near a power pole at the house's entrance, exploded at about 10.40am.
The suspected targets were state officials who patrol the route daily.
The explosion damaged former councillor Sukree Nareuchit's house and his sons Daniel, 21, and Yakes, 18, sustained cuts from shattered glass.
Nine other homes on Jarusathien Road were also damaged.
A suspected insurgent detonated the bomb when a siren-wailing rescue truck passed the spot, as it is believed the insurgent thought it was a police car.
In Sungai Kolok yesterday morning, unknown assailants in a pick-up threw a grenade and fired multiple shots at a home in Ban Beu Ba.
No one was injured in the incident, which occurred about 4.30am.
The homeowner, vegetable merchant Mahamadnase Paju-ade, 27, told police he had no business conflict with anyone.
