A farmer in Prachin Buri's Muang district committed suicide yesterday, reportedly because of stress over outstanding debts and a mill only offering to buy his rice at Bt5,500 per tonne.
Muang Prachin Buri Police Station's on-duty officer Pol Lieutenant Kongpol Dechkhampul said Singkhon Tonsamruad, 33, was found hanging in front of the toilet in his house.
Initial investigation found that Singkhon had just reunited with his estranged wife Chawiwan and the couple had had an argument about the 10 tonnes of off-season rice that was being stored in a 10-wheel truck waiting to be sold. Sinkhon had reportedly complained about the low price being offered by the rice mill, especially in view of the family's outstanding debts. Police suspect that Singkhon had become too stressed while on his own at home and hence chose to kill himself.
